The Idaho Debates is a collaborative project of The Idaho Press Club, The League of Women Voters of Idaho, and Idaho Public Television. |
The Idaho DebatesFor more than two decades, Idaho Public Television has been Idaho's 'station of record' for candidate debates. In May 2008, we'll continue that tradition with debates for 3 races Candidates are selected for the debates by the League of Women Voters, the Idaho Press Club and Idaho Public Television. Among other criteria, candidates have to show that they have an "active campaign." Lack of evidence of an active campaign, and/or the lack of an opponent, mean that some races will not have a debate. After the DebateThis year, after The Idaho Debates, there's more. This election season Idaho Public Television takes our audience in new directions with "After The Debate." This free-flowing, insightful program immediately follows The Idaho Debates and can only be seen on-line here at idahoptv.org. Our expert panel includes Dr. Jim Weatherby, professor emeritus Boise State University, political science professor Steve Shaw of Northwest Nazarene University, and Kevin Richert, editorial editor for the Idaho Statesman. Get their take on what was said, and not said, during the debates. Hear more of what you need to know to make your decision when you step into the voting booth. It's perspective you won't get anywhere else and it's only on-line. The Idaho Secretary of State's Idaho Votes website has links to general voter information. The Secretary of State also provides information specific to the primary election, including candidate lists and maps of legislative districts. Primary election day is May 27th. Polls open at 8:00 a.m. in most locations, 7:00 a.m. in others. Visit our Election Basics page to learn more. And remember, Idaho has same-day voter registration. If you are not registered to vote, just take proof of your address, like a utility bill or rent receipt, and photo identification and cast your ballot. Let your voice be heard! |
