REPORT WARNS THOUSANDS OF HISTORIC SITES ON USFS LANDS IN DANGER
A report (.pdf) issued Thursday by the National Trust for Historic Preservation said that there are at least 325,000 sites of significant historic value on national forest lands across the nation that are at risk because the U.S. Forest Service doesn't have the money to protect them. WYOMING WILDLIFE OFFICIALS INVESTIGATE ILLEGAL WOLF KILL
Wyoming Game and Fish Department personnel are investigating the killing of a wolf in April in Bridger-Teton National Forest, an area of the state where wolves can only be killed during a hunting season, which has yet to be set; this is the first illegal kill reported in Wyoming since the state took over management of the species from the federal government on March 28. GIMMICKS, PANDERING WON'T SOLVE THE NATION'S ENERGY SITUATION
Congress' decision to redirect the oil that is stored daily in the nation's underground Strategic Petroleum Reserve for the remainder of the year smacks of election-year pandering to coddle consumption-minded Americans; the nation needs an energy policy that demands more efficient vehicle standards immediately and pours more money into research and development of alternative energy.
