Wakkinen Biography
Wayne
is a Senior Wildlife Research Biologist working in northern Idaho. He
lives in Bonners Ferry and works in the nearby Selkirk and Purcell Mountains
where his primary focus is the recovery of grizzly bears and woodland
caribou. Because these species have large home ranges and move across
the international boundary, Wayne often has the opportunity to work
closely with biologists in British Columbia.
Wayne
recently started a new research project that is looking at the effects
of new highway construction on wildlife. This allowed him to branch
out and study other animals, including black bears, deer, elk, moose,
cougars, and wolves.
Wayne
was born in Idaho Falls and has always lived in the western United States.
He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Boise State University and his
Master’s Degree from the University of Idaho while working on sage grouse.
He is married and has 2 sons. During his time away from work he enjoys
camping and hiking with his family, fly fishing, skiing, woodworking,
and attending his sons’ soccer games.
